Khanom Thai Thai Food
About Project

Nowadays, Thai food is no longer confined to Thais alone, but is savored by non-natives throughout the world. Everyone loves the genuine taste of authentic Thai food, from Phat Thai to Tom Yum Kung. However, the charm of Thai food lies not only in its delicious taste and harmonious flavors, but in its nutritious qualities as well, The ingredients smell of herbs that are both fragrant and health-giving as well.

The burgeoning reputation of Thai cuisine has precipitated the spread of a number of Thai recipes and made them well-known throughout the world. However, there is a veritable treasure trove of great Thai recipes that have been around for more than sixty years or so that have remained a closely guarded secret and whose preparation has not been made public. These are the recipes of the Chotiwet campus of the Rajamangala Institute of Technology -- recipes that have been lovingly collected, meticulously researched and gradually improved upon down the years. For more than ten years now, first-class hotels from the four comers of the world have dispatched their chefs to Thailand to study the art of Thai cooking. Now the time has come for these secret recipes to be revealed to the world at large -- to Thais and non-Thais alike in a completely revolutionary way.

For over a decade, R.U. has assumed a leading role as a provider of education via satellite, as well as being a leader in teaching Thai to non-native speakers via e-learning, recording a total of 100,000 'hits' in the process. The university has created effective e-learning programs to promote teaching and learning worldwide through the Internet. Now, no matter where students of R.U. might find themselves, they will be able to listen to live lectures beamed from R.U. 24 hours a day. In line with this policy, R.U. is opening a new chapter of its vision by teaching the art of Thai cooking to the world at large.

SUM System Co., Ltd. has engaged a team of Thai engineers and skilled programmers to invent a new educational program called “Education Sphere”. As a result, a wide variety of knowledge and skills are just a click away, appearing instantly on your computer screen, ready for you to learn.

These three co-partners: R.U., Rajamangala Institute, and SUM System Co., Ltd. have pooled their resources in creating a new phenomenon -- teaching Thai cooking via a web site called “thaicuisineonline.com”. During the course of 2003, a total of ten secret recipes for both main dishes and desserts will be revealed, including a new twist on such old favorites as: Phat Thai, Thod Mun, Tom Yum Kung, Som Tam, Chicken with green curry, Sung Khaya, Look Chup, Khanom Chun, Thai Khanom Bueng and Glutinous rice with a variety of toppings. Each recipe contains a list of the ingredients required for each dish, followed by instructions for each step of the actual preparation via a clear, online video demonstration of each stage. In this way, learners will be able to prepare the ingredients and cook the dish along with the video. From the outset, the instructions will be in two languages: Thai and English. In minutes, you will have a dish of Thai food that would pass the test of Thai food lovers anywhere in the world and it will taste as authentic as if it had been cooked here in Thailand by a veteran Thai cook.

Moreover, for those interested in cooking Thai food for commercial purposes, R.U., in conjunction with the Rajamangala Institute of Technology, will administer a test, to be adjudicated by a special committee, either at the R.U. campus in the US or in Europe, to obtain the necessary certification. Those interested in taking the test in Thailand are also welcome to apply.
